I think of a school as a system that has some sort of boundary condition, and a view on what truth, beauty and goodness is. Ie, what qualities does it try to invoke in the student. Substack is a great and rich ecosystem. I wouldn’t say it’s a school , as much as it is a repository of knowledge and people conveying said knowledge. That doesn’t take away the fact that it can expand one’s horizon.
That makes sense. Unfortunately universities have been hijacked by neoliberalism/the dominant destructive capitalist system (my personal experience as an academic). There's definitely room for a new wisdom school model. Or we change the system and universities regain their freedom of speech and role as comment and critic of society? Both tasks will take a lot of work.
For me, Substack acts as a virtual wisdom school, what do you think?
I very much think an educational reform will be an inevitable outcome from all of this
